Milk Crop
Mothiganapur farm at sunrise — hand-milking an A2 cow

Our story · Since 2024

A family farm in Mothiganapur.
60 km from Hyderabad. One traditional method.

Our A2 Ghee is a promise of purity, rooted in our own pastures and a deep commitment to compassionate, cruelty-free farming. It is crafted from the rich milk of our grass-fed herd and transformed using the patient, artisanal Bilona method. Every golden jar represents our commitment to authentic quality and tradition, offering a taste of true connection, direct from our farm to your family.

— Printed on every jar of Milkcrop A2 Ghee

Milkcrop started in 2024 because we couldn't find ghee in the city that tasted like the ghee in our grandmother's kitchen. Most “premium” jars on the shelf are just centrifuge-separated butter heated quickly to make ghee. The label says “A2” or “pure cow,” but the process strips the flavour, the aroma, the slow caramel notes that make real ghee taste like real ghee.

So we went back to the source. Our family farm sits in Mothiganapur, about 60 km outside Hyderabad. A small herd of grass-fed A2 cows and buffaloes we know by name. Milked at dawn. The milk is set as curd overnight. The next morning, my mother churns the curd bi-directionally by hand using a wooden bilona — the same one her mother used. The butter that floats up is collected, then slow-cooked on a low flame for hours until the water evaporates and the milk solids caramelize into golden ghee.

No centrifuge separators. No shortcuts. Cruelty-free. The whole process takes about 36 hours per jar. Machines could do it in 4. But every shortcut takes a little of the flavour away.
